  1. Angel's Wings

From the recording Angel's Wings

Lyrics

Angels’ Wings

I pray alone today, God is near; He can hear me.
Cathedral towers soar adorned like angels’ wings.

Couldn’t get much louder, even for the deaf:
I entered the castle hall and almost lost my breath.
Occasioned by the royal wedding was an endless feast
When enemies wed all bodes well for harmony and peace.

Bride and groom danced through the room. The minstrels crooned
Such a happy tune.

I but render service in royal employ;
The friars chose me for the king when I was but a boy.
A clark in this fine kingdom, I tend to many things.
As I scurry from hither to yon I wish that I had wings.

I’d fly, a hawk in the air from hither to there
Had I angel’s wings.

It couldn’t get much louder, even for the deaf
I entered the cellar hall; and all but lost my breath
Screams like bloody murder, a shriek to wake the dead
I heard snapping of bones from poor souls, and I was filled with dread.

I tried to block out the view; what could I do?
I kept moving through.

I had no idea fear had such a scent
And it hung in the air like despair that never will be spent.
I fear the Inquisition and its tortured stretch
That grips the sinner and saint or whomever. I pity the poor wretch.

I tried to block out the view; what could I do?
I kept moving through.

I pray alone today, God is near; He can hear me.
Cathedral towers rise adorned like angels’ wings.
