Wintertime Sky

When I was a child, I wanted to see if reindeer could really fly.
I stayed awake on Christmas eve and gazed at the wintertime sky.

Was it a dream? I thought that I was awake. I saw a light shine on high,
Was it Rudolph’s ruby glow that lit up the wintertime sky?

Santa came that day; reindeer pulled the sleigh.
Whether I was naughty or nice –
Who is there to say?

Maybe I saw an angel of light or meteor passing by.
I have that precious memory of light in the wintertime sky.

The wintertime chill may offer a thrill to some. Now you and I
Can feel a glow. We walk through snow that falls from the wintertime sky.

The warmth of your smile won’t melt all the ice; it keeps my wide eyes dry.
The wind is cold as we head home under the wintertime sky.

And so we retreat – leave the freezing street,
Pleased to be away from the storm
Warmed by the fire’s heat.

I think of the time when an angel of light or meteor shined on high.
I see that brightness in your eyes. You light up my wintertime sky.

With you every day is a holiday.
I recall that light in the sky
When you look my way.

I think of the time when an angel of light or meteor shined on high.
I see that brightness in your eyes. You light up my wintertime,
Every day all the time, light up my wintertime sky.
